It is also a backdrop for celebrations of everyday lives and festivals. The Community Centre also houses civic amenities that are currently absent from the village. The space is designed to create safe environment for women by assembling different kinds of vibrant programs together. The Challenge

Gundagurthi village is still disconnected from the sanitation grid and lacks basic infrastructure and civic amenities. Currently the village consists of the main bazar street and housing clusters scattered across the landscape. Currently the Bazar street and spaces in between houses behave as community spaces for their everyday lives.

The Solution

The architecture takes the form of a landmark that can be easily identified as a public building due to its iconic imagery. The building is designed as a brick screen, where porous surfaces allow the building to breathe with natural light and wind. Brick is used as the construction material as it is abundantly available in Gulbarga district.

Expected Impact

The Amphitheatre is a space where women could gather, children could play, and senior citizens can meet for evening conversations. The space could also be used for community gatherings, weekly markets, medical camps & mohalla meetings. Beneath the Amphitheatre are housed the Library, Multipurpose Hall, A Health Post, Vocational Centre and Public Toilets.
